COMPANY SPOTLIGHT: Chelsea Boyd
Chelsea Boyd plays Cecily Cardew in THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST.
1) What has drawn you to be involved in theatre?
I’ve always been drawn to the sense of community that is born out of people creating art together. Whether that art has a deep, heavy meaning, or it is made for people to enjoy, the connections made between the cast and crew during the process and then with the audience during performances are some of my favorite feelings.
2) What do you like most about the character you are playing or the job you are doing for The Importance of Being Earnest?
I love playing Cecily. She’s so young and idealistic, but she also has this strong sense of self. She’s fearless. She knows what she wants and sees no reason why she shouldn’t have it. It’s so much fun to play someone who is at once so naive and so confident.
3) What qualities do find most admirable in a person?
I admire people who show up for others – people whose strength is in their kindness.
4) What is your comfort food?
Enchiladas every day forever.
5) Describe your greatest accomplishment.
I don’t know if friendship is an accomplishment, but I’m most proud of the friendships I’ve established and maintained throughout my life. It feels like an accomplishment to have held onto so many truly good people for so long. I’m so grateful they’ve held onto me….Also I stole a piece of bacon off of Willie’s plate last week and I’m very proud of that.
THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST runs November 20-24, 2019 at the Big Bear Lake Performing Arts Center.
